IMPORTANT NEWS ABOUT PREGNANCY AND FLU SEASON

As flu season has arrived, and colder temperatures will be sending us indoors soon, everyone will be in closer contact with others. The importance of practicing good hygiene with good hand-washing practices is reinforced to decrease risk of transmission of the flu virus, as well as other illness transmitted by casual contact with infected individuals.

Pregnant women are encouraged to get the flu vaccine as soon it is available in your area. Changes to a pregnant woman’s immune system can make her more sensitive to contracting the flu. Vaccinated pregnant women will also produce antibodies to protect their unborn fetuses that will continue once the child is born; breastfeeding passes along antibodies to newborns as well.
